Cummins Group in India, a leading provider of power solutions technology, has inaugurated its first IT Global Competency Center (GCC) at its India office campus in Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra. The center’s opening ceremony was led by Earl Newsome, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Cummins Inc., and Annapurna Vishwanathan, Chief Information Officer of Cummins India, alongside senior officials from the India team.
The GCC represents a pivotal component of Cummins’ extensive IT transformation strategy aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies and accelerating time-to-market for its products and services. It will serve as a hub for software engineers, product owners, architects, technology leads, and process experts, fostering innovation across sectors such as automotive, engineering research and development (ER&D), manufacturing, and energy.
“The Cummins success story in India is one of people, progress, and possibilities. For more than six decades, we have invested in our people here, and together, we have powered the growth of both our company and this nation. As we position for the future, our inaugural IT GCC in India is a strategic move in building our IT capabilities to deliver an exceptional business experience for our stakeholders globally,” said Newsome during the launch.
Vishwanathan said, “This GCC aligns with our aspirations for business growth and India’s continued progress. We will achieve this by leveraging our country’s exceptional talent pool to enhance digital enablement and process transformation, boosting our competitive edge.”
GCC for Diverse Needs
Notably, the GCC champions gender diversity with 55% women employees, underscoring Cummins’ commitment to inclusivity in technology roles. Future initiatives will further strengthen this aspect across all technical functions. The center’s establishment marks a significant milestone in Cummins’ efforts to leverage IT capabilities for sustained growth and innovation in the global market.
Apart from regular payment, the GCC will also offer internship programs for young talent and employment opportunities for various people including veterans, individuals with special needs, returning to workforce and others. The company will also partner with educational institutions and offer programs for fostering future leaders.
