Google Cloud to Collaborate with IndiaAI Mission to Ramp Up AI Infrastructure

Google Cloud sees India as one of the fastest-growing markets and seeks to work with the country’s public sector.

Google Cloud plans to work with the Indian government on its IndiaAI Mission and explore ways to collaborate with the electronics and information technology ministry, said Bikram Singh Bedi, vice president and managing director of Google Cloud India.

Speaking at a select media briefing, he further said, “One of the reasons we set up the Delhi region was to serve public sector needs. The next phase is the AI mission opportunity, where we are closely working with the government.”

According to reports, he also mentioned that the public sector, especially companies working with the Indian government, remains Google Cloud’s key focus area. Bedi mentioned that only the Gemini 1.5 Flash model is currently hosted in India, but with refresh cycles every 12 months, new versions will also become available locally, the Economic Times (ET) reported

“India as a market, the growth that we are seeing is one of the fastest in the world and hence, we are moving very quickly to see how do we not just augment capacity but augment technology, to bring in the latest and the greatest so that the customers in India can then use the latest parts of our technology,” the MD added.

Google Cloud has a significant presence in India, offering various cloud services. The company is considering expanding its infrastructure to cater to India’s digital needs. It already has data centres in Delhi and Mumbai and is looking to invest in Navi Mumbai. Google Cloud India has also partnered with Indian telcos like Airtel to offer sovereign cloud services.

Google Cloud has been strengthening its engagement with government initiatives. According to the IndiaAI Mission’s official website, edge computing transforms data processing by minimising latency and bandwidth use by processing data closer to its source. Major players like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud are supporting this trend by expanding data centre capacities for AI workloads.

According to the investment firm CBRE, digital infrastructure investments in data centres in India are expected to exceed $100 billion by 2027. Bedi reportedly mentioned that Google can more successfully enhance the cost efficiency of AI solutions since it manages all four tiers of the technology stack: the infrastructure, research and models, AI agents, and its training and deployment platform, Vertex AI.
