BharatGen Launches e-vikrAI

BharatGen, India’s first government backed multimodal AI initiative, has released e-vikrAI, an advanced solution powered by Vision Language Models, tailored for product images in Indic e-commerce.

e-vikrAI simplifies cataloguing for sellers, eliminating the need for manual input. By simply uploading a product image, sellers receive auto-generated titles, descriptions, features, and pricing suggestions, all infused with a deep understanding of Indic culture.

A key highlight is its explainability feature ‘e-vikrAI’, that can translate and vocalise product descriptions in various Indian languages, enhancing accessibility for sellers nationwide.

BharatGen stands for building “GenAI for Bharat, by Bharat.” Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the project last month and it aims to revolutionise public service delivery and enhance citizen engagement through AI.

Spearheaded by IIT Bombay under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), BharatGen focuses on creating AI models tailored for India’s diverse languages and cultural contexts.

The project is being executed by the TIH Foundation for IoT and IOE at IIT Bombay, in collaboration with several leading academic institutions, including IITs across the country.

“BharatGen is not just about foundational AI technology, rather it facilitates a comprehensive and inclusive ecosystem. This AI will create new opportunities in important sectors like education, health, agriculture, and industry,” Prof Ganesh Ramakrishnan, Lead of the BharatGen initiative, told AIM.
