GitHub has announced a new feature called ‘Agents Panel’ which allows users to quickly delegate tasks to the Copilot agent from any page on GitHub.com

This feature is accessible for preview across all paid GitHub Copilot plans, including Pro, Pro+, Business and Enterprise. It appears as an overlay panel, allowing users to enter natural language instructions for tasks without leaving their current work. The company describes it as a “developer’s mission control centre for agentic workflows”.

Developers can assign background tasks without switching pages, monitor running tasks with real-time status, jump into pull requests when they are ready to view and more.

For context, GitHub’s Copilot coding agent allows developers to delegate coding tasks through GitHub.com, GitHub Mobile, VS Code or any MCP-enabled tool and receive a draft pull request once completed. It operates in the cloud, can handle multiple tasks simultaneously and keeps working even if the developers are away from their systems.

When Microsoft, GitHub’s parent company, reported its earnings for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025, it was revealed that GitHub Copilot now has 20 million users.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said enterprise customers for GitHub Copilot increased 75% quarter-over-quarter and 90% of Fortune 100 companies now use the tool. “GitHub usage and repos are seeing explosive growth because of AI,” he said. AI-related projects on GitHub have more than doubled in the past year.

In a recent development, Thomas Dohmke resigned as the CEO of GitHub at the end of the year after serving in the role for four years. He revealed that he plans to become a founder once again with a new venture, while GitHub will continue to operate under Microsoft’s CoreAI organisation.
