Confluent Names Stephen Deasy as Chief Technology Officer

He previously served as CTO at Benchling, where he built the company’s global product and platform teams

Confluent announced the appointment of Stephen Deasy as its Chief Technology Officer on Tuesday. Deasy will lead the company’s engineering strategy and execution, with a focus on scaling its data streaming platform for artificial intelligence and real-time applications.

The company said Deasy will oversee efforts to strengthen Confluent’s core infrastructure, enabling organisations to develop and deploy real-time use cases such as agentic AI, personalised customer engagement, and automated operations.

“Stephen brings a wealth of experience scaling engineering teams and building platforms that power the world’s most demanding systems,” said Jay Kreps, co-founder and CEO of Confluent. “With his leadership, we’ll move even faster to help customers turn data streams into a foundation for AI, smarter decisions, and entirely new classes of real-time applications.”

Deasy has over two decades of experience in engineering leadership. He previously served as CTO at Benchling, where he built the company’s global product and platform teams. At Atlassian, he oversaw engineering for Jira, Confluence, Trello, and its cloud platform. He has also held senior roles at VMware, EMC, and Groupon.

“Confluent is defining what’s possible with streaming data, and I’m excited to be part of that journey,” Deasy said. “I’ve seen firsthand how real-time data can transform businesses. Now, I get to work with the best in the field to make this powerful technology easier to adopt and more impactful for every organisation.”

Deasy holds multiple patents and is also an investor in early-stage technology companies.
